A safelist is a mailing list that is geared towards advertising web sites, business opportunities, and so forth. All members of a free or paid safelist agree to receive advertising emails from the other members. It benefits you by allowing you to advertise to a number of people via email, without having to resort to spam.
Because you receive a lot of emails you have to give a different email address for them to be sent to than the one you normally use. Safelist owners usually supply these to those who sign up for their service.
Because they receive so many people are inclined not to read them unless it has a really eye catching heading. Because of this many safelist owners have set up credit based safelists where those who sign up earn credits for reading them which means they can mail to more people. The principle is the same as Traffic Exchanges, except you have to open an email and click on the link instead of just sitting in front of your screen and waiting for the next one to appear.

Originally there were only a few types of programmes for people to use to advertise etc and it was not difficult to place each individual programme in one of the these categories, by it safelists, Traffic Exchanges, etc. But with the new scripts, such as Butterfly, etc all this has changed and it is more difficult to place programmes.
